RECYCLING
The Borough contracts with Blue Diamond Disposal for all recyclable collection. Paper and commingled recyclable materials are picked up at curbside according to the calendar schedule.

PAPER ITEMS
Paper items must be bundled in a paper bag or bundled with twine. Paper materials include catalogs, newspapers, telephone books, magazines, office and school paper. Recyclable paper placed in plastic bags will not be accepted. Cardboard items must be flattened and bundled with twine. Please, do not include laminated or vegetative materials with your paper recyclables.
COMMINGLED ITEMS
Commingled recyclable material includes glass, aluminum, tin cans and plastic. These items may be put together in one collection container clearly marked “RECYCLABLE MATERIAL”.
GLASS: Rinse glass bottles and remove as much residue as possible.
ALUMINUM: Beverage cans only. Please do not include foil wrap or pie plates.
TIN CANS: Rinse cans and remove as much residue as possible.
PLASTIC: Plastic items marked as “#1 PET” and “#2 HDPE” are accepted. Please rinse out milk containers.
GARBAGE and BULK ITEM COLLECTION

GARBAGE COLLECTION
WHEN? Place your garbage cans at the curb the night before, but no later than 7:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
HOW MUCH? Each household is allowed to place four 32-gallon garbage cans, with tight fitting lids, at the curb for weekly collection. Garbage bags are not considered containers.
Storage of garbage cans is permitted in the rear or side yard and should be 10 feet from any property line.
BULK ITEM COLLECTION
WHEN? One bulk item may be placed at the curb with your weekly garbage.
WHAT? Bulk items may include furniture, mattress, carpets, children’s toys and even the kitchen sink. Please be mindful, Blue Diamond will not accept construction materials, electronic waste or hazardous waste.
LATEX PAINT
May be put out with regular garbage; however, cans must be empty and dry and the lids removed.

DISPOSAL OF HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Residents of Sussex County may dispose of their hazardous and electronic waste materials at the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority in Lafayette.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DAYS
Residents may bring up to 100 pounds of dry household hazardous waste materials, 10 gallons of liquid waste and 25 fluorescent bulbs FREE OF CHARGE.

Examples of household hazardous waste include: lead and oil based paints, stains, paint thinner, acids, ammonia, printing ink, driveway sealer and more…

ELECTRONIC WASTE DAYS
Residents may bring up to 10 items. Examples of electronic waste include: computer systems, printers, televisions, VCR/DVD players, fax machines, copiers, radio and stereo equipment, cell phones and other electronic media devices. (Residents may also bring electronic waste to the DPW facility on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

The Sussex County MUA also accepts tires, items containing Freon, contractor waste, leaves and brush.

DISPOSAL OF TIRES, MOTOR OILS,
ELECTRONICS & APPLIANCES
Residents are allowed to drop off the following items at the Borough’s Smith Street DPW facility on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.:
MOTOR OILS: Automotive oils are accepted in closed plastic containers. Greases and other lubricants are not accepted.
BATTERIES: Car, truck & motorcycle batteries are accepted. The Borough does not collect household batteries.
ANTIFREEZE: Automotive antifreeze is accepted in closed plastic containers.
TIRES: Automobile, light truck, motorcycle and bicycle tires are accepted for a nominal fee. Tire disposal fee is $2.00 per tire. Tires with rim $3.00 each.
ELECTRONICS: Electronics are accepted free of charge; however proof of residency is required. If you wish to have your electronics picked up curbside, purchase a Yellow Sticker at Borough Hall.
Leaves, Brush and Recycling materials are always accepted at the DPW yard, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
WHITE GOODS DISPOSAL
White Goods Containing Freon: Obtain a Green Sticker for the disposal of refrigerators, dehumidifiers, air conditioners and freezers. Stickers may be purchased at Borough Hall for $12.00.
All Other White Goods & Electronics: Obtain a Yellow Sticker for the disposal of washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, hot water heaters, trash compactors and electronics. Stickers may be purchased at Borough Hall for $5.00.
Curbside pick-up of White Goods and Electronics is by appointment only. Item[s] may be placed at the curb the evening before the scheduled pick-up date.
